What is a BLOG ?

During one of our regularly scheduled Crystal Fanatics Club (CFC) weekly Chats, I discovered, much to my dismay, that some of our members had no idea what or how a Blog functioned.
So, What is a Blog anyway ?  Well, you're reading one now.

blog/blôg/
Noun: A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis.
Verb: Add new material to or regularly update a blog.
‘From “Web log.” A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web consisting of unique entries, or "posts".  The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”‘

A blog is a personal, political or business journal published on the Web. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, but occasionally published by a small group. Often they are focused on a single subject, and updated regularly.  A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other web pages and media related to its topic.
In addition to the main page of a blog, Archives of previously written articles are kept and usually displayed chronologically somewhere on the face of the main page, so that you can have access to them anytime.

Many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject, like the Blog for Crystal Fanatics, explicitly written for Collectors of Swarovski Crystal.  Others function as more personal online diaries or as a form of brand advertising for a particular individual or company.

The emergence and growth of blogs in the late 1990's coincided with the development of web publishing tools, enabling the posting of content by non-technical users without having to use html. 

 
Most good quality blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. If a blogger doesn't allow comments to their articles, well, why bother ?  Do they have something to hide ? Do they fear retaliation ? That's NOT a Blog; it's a one-way conversation by an ego-maniac.

 
Our CFC blog is not a monologue, but a conversation. You can leave feedback, comment, critique, question, or leave an essay on why you love my blog. :)
You will find the Comments section on everything I write simply by clicking the ‘comments’ link at the bottom of each one of my posts. 

Blogging can be seen as a form of social networking. Indeed, bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs, but also build social relationships with their readers, and sometimes other bloggers.

You can Learn a Lot reading a Blog. For instance, if you are a Swarovski Crystal Collector, we write articles in detail about the issues we collect, as well as informative posts about Collecting.

The 2012 Swarovski RETIREMENTS!

Swarovski Retirements in 2012, LOTS of 'em!

CFC has ALL the 2012 Swarovski Retirements, just recently posted to our Website.  

Included also in our CFC Photo Gallery, some of them include, the Lovlots Circus figurines, only launched about 1 year ago. We're sure these are being retired to accommodate all the crazy NEW Lovlots issues. You can see them too on our Website and in our Photo Galleries.

Some of the longest running Swarovski figurines on the list that will no longer be produced:

• Beagle,  issued in 1990
• Four Leaf Clover, 1997
• Ladybird,  issued in 1995
• Rabbit Sitting, also issued in 1995
• Squirrel, issued in 1985

Some of the Swarovski figurines retiring have colored versions that are replacing them, you can see them too on our CFC Website and Photo Galleries.

The 'Changing' Swarovski Warranty

 The Swarovski Warranty

As we well know, Swarovski doesn't much like dealers and websites that are selling Swarovski figurines and jewelry at prices below their suggested manufactured retail price.  Swarovski receives their profit when orders are placed by retailers, and they pretty much command they sell their products at retail price.  They don't like it if those businesses are willing to operate on a lower profit margin, to keep the products moving through their inventory; and in the past, they have had no compunction to close dealers/retailers down, and/or remove their Swarovski product line from stores who violate this policy.

To further keep Collectors from purchasing their product from retailers and auction sites that are not authorized to sell Swarovski (like eBay and stores who cannot obtain licensing from Swarovski), they will no longer honor the Swarovski Warranty UNLESS the figurines were purchased directly from them, or an 'authorized' Dealer.   If you cannot provide a warranty card, and sales slip from an authorized retailer, showing both purchase price and date of purchase, they will not offer after-sales-services any longer. 
So what does that mean?
It means they won't repair your crystal if you cannot provide such proof, so you need to consciously decide how important that warranty is to you when you purchase their products.
Because CFC is a worldwide club site, we are aware that 'warranty' policies differ depending on the country.
For example, Australia has an open, 'we'll fix it' policy with no restrictions. You just bring the product back to an authorized store, and they send it back. Normally, they do this for no charge or very little expense. The UK has a similar policy, however, there may be restrictions on the period of time you have to return the product for repair.
Here in the U.S., we would call Swarovski North America, receive an authorization number, and pay a $5.00 fee + postage to return the product to them ourselves; supposedly we can now bring the product for repair to an authorized store.  In the past, Swarovski would not repair retired items or NLE's more than 3 years from the date of issue. It's unclear whether or not this policy has changed.
End Result: Pay Full Price for purchases at an 'authorized' dealer to obtain the warranty, or go without the warranty to purchase elsewhere at a more affordable price point. This is especially a more difficult decision when purchasing the more expensive issues.

Giving gifts of Swarovski Crystal could pose a problem, but supposedly Swarovski will honor 'gift' purchases by obtaining a 'gift receipt' from a Swarovski store or an authorized retailer.

As far as I'm concerned, Swarovski is just putting up more roadblocks for Collectors to consider when purchasing their product.

Swarovski Releases in China for Year of the Dragon

Swarovski has unveiled its own commemorative “Year of the Dragon” offerings for the China market only.
Set to hit stores throughout mainland China in January, Swarovski’s dragon-themed collection includes men’s and women’s watches, accessories and jewelry.
I'm sure some of us would love to see these issues in other countries as well.
